They will be joined by Dr Bharat Patel, Consultant Medical Microbiologist with the Health Protection Agency UK, Dr Robert Cunney, Consultant Microbiologist with the Health Protection Surveillance Centre and Temple Street Children’s Hospital in Dublin, and mother-of-two and health campaigner Loretta Evans, Patient Safety Champion.
The appointment of a final member of the team is currently being concluded and the investigation will be managed by HIQA staff including Director of Regulation Phelim Quinn, Investigation Lead Hilary Coates, Investigation Deputy Lead Mary Dunnion, Investigation Data Manager Margaret Cahill and Investigation Coordinator Emily McLoughlin.
The team will carry out an independent investigation into the safety, quality and standards of services provided by the Health Services Executive to patients, including pregnant women, at risk of clinical deterioration and as reflected in the care of treatment provided to Savita Halappanavar.
