One of the most successful groups currently doing the rounds in the West of Ireland returns to its musical home, Monroe’s Live, this Friday, 2 August.
Having taken their infectious blend of country, folk and bluegrass across the UK and US this year, The Amazing Apples are now concentrating on consolidating their position as one of the best live acts in Ireland.
The Apples have now shaken off their cover band beginnings to develop a signature sound, exemplified by their Download Chart-topping EP, ‘Three or Four Shoes’. This promises to be another unforgettable night with The Amazing Apples at Monroe’s Live.
Appearing on the Monroe’s Live Backstage Bar earlier that evening will be “one of the best and busiest new live bands in the country”, according to Hot Press. Shadowplay are a three-piece melodic rock outfit who last year won the prestigious Hot Press Lift Off competition.
The band has spent the intervening months recording its debut album with producers David Odlum(The Frames) and Chris Kimsey (The Rolling Stones), with a release scheduled for late 2013.
Their sound blends melodic pop sensibilities with a creative, experimental edge that could see them transcend the critical-commercial divide and they look set to go far.
Doors for this double-header of top homegrown talent at Monroe’s Live open at 9pm. Admission is €10. For more information, see www.monroes.ie.
Meanwhile, all weekend, Dominick Street will host a Race Week Street Party with live acts and DJsperforming on a special street stage. Thursday sees Hermitage Green and Doghouse perform from 9pm to 11pm. See facebook.com/westendgalway for more.
