Baboró, Ireland’s flagship international arts festival devoted exclusively to children and their families, has announced the Irish premiere of the stage adaptation of one of the world’s best-loved children’s stories, Guess How Much I Love You.
Written by Irish author Sam McBratney and beautifully illustrated by Anita Jeram’s gentle watercolours, this award-winning classic and timeless story has captured the hearts of children and adults worldwide and this year celebrates its twentieth anniversary.
Nova Scotia’s Mermaid Theatre has brought this heartfelt story and its adorable hares to life in an affectionate and endearing puppet show. Adapted, directed and designed by Jim Morrow with music by Steven Naylor and narration by Beau Bridges, Guess How Much I Love You will receive its Irish premiere at Baboró International Arts Festival for Children on 15 October. It is presented together with Anita Jeram’s touching I Love My Little Storybook, which celebrates the joy of reading.
The universal truth at the heart of Guess How Much I Love You enables it to have an extraordinary relevance to many different people. It has found a very simple and a very warm-hearted way to say ‘I love you’ all over the world.
Little Nutbrown Hare loves Big Nutbrown Hare as far as he can reach and as high as he can hop. But Big Nutbrown Hare loves him as far as his long arms can reach and as high as his strong legs can hop. And so it continues”¦
The Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia ranks among North America’s most respected theatres for the young. The company first visited Baboró in 2010 with their much-loved The Very Hungry Caterpillar and the festival is looking forward to their return.
Baboró’s Executive Artistic Director Aislinn í”hEocha commented:”This is a very exciting festival show for a number of reasons; the much-loved story has touched children and adults alike all over the world and we’re delighted to welcome the return of the prestigious Mermaid Theatre with this Irish premiere. It’s a festival highlight not to be missed.”
Baboró recently announced another festival highlight; the world premiere of CoisCéim Dance Theatre’s first-ever production for children and families, The Wolf and Peter – a re-imagination of Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf.
