Gaillimh le Gaeilge has announced the nominees for the 2014 Galway bilingual awards programme, with the short-listed finalists due to announced during the Seachtain na Gaeilge celebrations on 13 March.
Speaking about the nominations, Bríd Ní Chonghóile, Gaillimh leGaeilge said the group is thrilled to see Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh go from strength to strength each year.
“This year’s nominees include 12 first-time entrants and six organisations that have previously participated and they range in size from one-man businesses to well-known multi-nationals.
“We are delighted to see new businesses that have recently opened in the city as well as those that have been trading in Galway for several decades getting involved. The retail category has the highest number of entries this year. It’s great to see so many retailoutlets using Gaeilge as it gives people on the street the opportunity to see and hear the language used in everyday situations,” she said.
The total value of the sponsorship for the Gradam is €20,000, supported by a mix of local and national sponsors.
Adjudicators this year include Professor Ciarán Ó hÓgartaigh, Dean of UCD School of Business, Siubhán Nic Grianna, Údarás na Gaeltachta, John Coyle, Hygeia and Renyvle House Hotel, and AilishRohan, Galway City Council.
“The moltóirí will be meeting later this month to choose a ‘Gearrliosta’ of businesses and organisations for the Gradam – a task which becomes more challenging each year given the nominees’ commitment to including the language in so many aspects of their businesses,” said Ms Ní Chonghóile.
