Twin Productions theatre company with direction from Brian and Seán Power will become the first theatre company in Ireland to produce ‘Spamalot’ at the Town Hall Theatre, Galway from 27 March – 1 April 2017 with the rights to the Tony Awardwinning show just recently becoming available for production
in this region.
Monty Python’s ‘Spamalot’, with book and lyrics by Eric Idle; music by John Du Prez and Eric Idle, is a new musical comedy lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy ‘Monty Python and the Holy Grail’. The supremely silly musical retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table and their search for the Holy Grail.
Throughout their journey they experience many odd encounters such as a task from the Knights who say Ni, a short conversation with an arguing Three Headed Giant, and a narrow escape from the Legendary Black Beast of Aaaaarrrrrrggghhh.
‘Spamalot’ features a shameless parade of puns, a posse of knights in tights (also shameless), a bevy of beautiful showgirls, a ‘dazzling diva’, hilarious dance numbers not to mention cows, killer rabbits, and some really terrible fake French accents. It’s an extravaganza that shan’t be missed!
Seán Power said, “I could not be more excited to be directing this show. The script is such a great homage to Monty Python while standing on its own as a piece of musical theatre. I look forward to helming this project with the support of a great artistic team.”
“We’re looking forward to seeing all of the Python fans and those who might be new to it to come along and receive more information about this show and try out for a part as a principal or a chorus member. This is a show that requires a wide age group but you must be over 17 and experience
would be great but not necessary. It will be a fun show to be involved in.”
So grab your coconuts and clippety-clop down to come along to the auditions at the Black Box Theatre, Dyke Road, Galway on Tuesday 22 and Thursday 24 November at 8pm. Contact Seán at 087- 2466966 for further information.
