The Gold Diggers have been taking Athenry by storm of late, playing a potent mixture of American standards, bluegrass and intriguing originals.
Now, they’re bringing their barnstorming set to Galway for a show at Monroe’s Live on Sunday, 11 August.
The Gold Diggers play nuggets from artists such as Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, Leonard Cohen and many others. Audiences can also expect to hear originals such as ‘Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee’ and the eponymous ‘Gold Diggers’, which make the most of the band’s intricate, weaving harmonies, adding their own particular stamp to the Americana genre.
The band’s Athenry-based members crossed paths through various dramatic and musical exploits and now regularly perform at Hop Inn, Iggy’s and Skillet in Athenry.
They played at the Volvo Ocean Race and for their return to Galway they will be joined by guest fiddle player Eanna Fahy of the Amazing Apples.
Doors for The Gold Diggers open at 10pm and admission is €5. For more information, see www.monroes.ie.
