On Sunday Galway WFC were within minutes of the shock of the season when they went in to the final couple of minutes of their Bus Éireann WNL Cup game with Raheny United leading 1-0.
However it was not to be as Raheny’s Clare Shine popped up in the 90th and 93rd minutes to claim victory for the Dubliners.
Galway had taken the lead from a Lynsey McKey 20 yard strike on the half hour mark. It was just reward for Galway WFC who started the brighter and for McKey who only moments earlier had another strike cleared off the line
Galway WFC now travel to Dublin this Sunday to take on Shamrock Rovers in the second game of the group before they host neighbours Castlebar Celtic in Eamonn Deacy Park on Sunday week in the final game.
