There will be a host of clean-up events across the city and county in the coming weeks as part of An Taisce’s National Spring Clean campaign.
Now in its 16th year, the National Spring Clean campaign is Ireland’s largest anti-litter initiative organised by An Taisce and funded by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government.
To celebrate this year’s campaign, An Taisce is also hosting a photo competition on Instagram. Entrants are asked to share images of the most beautiful spots in their local areas, tagging National Spring Clean (nationalspringclean) and using the hashtag#LoveWhereYouLive. The best pictures will be posted to the campaign’s Facebook page and the winner will receive a relaxing break in the Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel.
Events taking place in Galway over the coming weeks include:
– Moylough Tidy Towns will be holding a clean-up on Monday 31 March. Contact Jackie Somers on 086-3126413 to take part.
– Pupils and teachers from Merlin Woods Primary School will be cleaning up Doughiska Road on Tuesday 1 April.
– Saddlers Residents Association will be holding a clean-up on Saturday 5 April. Contact Fergal Collins on 086-6039180 for further information.
All volunteers registering for the National Spring Clean campaign are issued with a free clean-up kit, which contains important information, posters, colour-coded refuse sacks for segregation of waste materials and protective gloves to keep participants clean.
An Taisce also liaises with Local Authorities to ensure that all rubbish and materials collected will be collected and disposed of without charge. All those wishing to take part should register on www.nationalspringclean.org or call 01-4002219.
