The GTI students will be competing against entrants from the National College of Art and Design, University of Ulster, North West Regional College, Griffith College Dublin and the Limerick School of Art and Design.
Awards organiser Patricia McCrossan of Goldenegg Productions said she was delighted to see Galwayrepresented at the awards, which offer an opportunity for the work of young designers to be shown to a jury made up of fashion design experts.
“For some years now Galway has been a creative hub for design; there is a vibrant fashion scene in the city and county, particularly with our milliners who have been attracting headlines nationally and internationally with their work,” said Patricia.
“I’m especially delighted to see the high degree of creativity from our student designers in GalwayTechnical Institute. They will be competing in the Student Designer of the Year Category, which this year has entries from the all the main colleges of art and design on the island of Ireland,” she added.
Members of the audience will also have an opportunity to win an award, as organisers have introduced the Red Carpet Award for the Most Glamorous Lady attending the event. Fashion designer and Off the Rails presenter Sonya Lennon will have the unenviable task of judging the style on the night. The winner will receive a weekend break in the award winning Wineport Lodge in Glasson, Westmeath.
