Galway-based AP Design, specialists in new product development for medical device companies, has been acquired by Sligo company ProTek Group.
The acquisition will allow ProTek’s increased expansion, both nationally and internationally, in the coming months and years.
Protek Medical is one of Ireland’s leading contract manufacturing providers to medical device original equipment manufacturers. Employing 125 people at its Sligo facility, the company specialises in injection moulding components for critical care medical device applications such as balloon and stent catheters used in minimally invasive cardiovascular surgeries.
“Along with establishing a dedicated Galway facility, the acquisition expands our product offering to provide award winning design capability and firmly position ProTek for future growth opportunities,” said Frank Boyle, ProTek Medical Managing Director.
AP Design has been providing product design services to the medical device industry since 2006. The company’s director, Des Regan will now assume the role of Design Director at ProTek Medical while continuing to remain in the Galway facility. Mr Regan has extensive design expertise, having previously worked in senior design roles in BMR, Aerogen and Covidien.
Commenting on the acquisition, he said it will create a platform with an established company and brand to grow and support the company’s existing customers.
“ProTek has the infrastructure, resources and technology our customers need to support their product design from concept to commercialisation. I am looking forward to joining the ProTek Medical team and establishing stronger relationships with our new and existing customers,” he said.
