A taxi driver killed in a road traffic accident was yesterday, Tuesday, laid to rest in Tuam.
Mike Ward (55) from Lissadyra , Ballygaddy Road, Tuam suffered fatal injuries in a collision on the N17 at Cloonmore, Tuam on Saturday morning at approximately 2.20am, when the car he was driving was struck by another vehicle.
A father of seven children, Mr Ward is survived by wife Mary, daughters Margaret and Bridget, sons Martin, Michael, Owen, Laurence and David.
He was laid to rest yesterday, Tuesday, at Tuam Cemetery following Funeral Mass at Cathedral of the Assumption, Tuam.
Gardaí are investigating the fatal road traffic collision which also saw the lone passenger in Mr Ward’s car, a 20-year-old male, and the driver and sole occupant of the second vehicle, 22-year-old Galway footballer Shane Walsh, also taken to University Hospital Galway with non-life threatening injuries.
The Kilkerrin/Clonberne player will now miss Galway’s Connacht semi-final meeting with Mayo at Pearse Stadium next Sunday.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who travelled the N17 at Cloonmore Bridge between 2am and 2.30am on 6 June to contact them at Tuam Garda Station on 093-70840, The Garda Confidential Line, 1800-666111, or any Garda Station.
