Galway folksters Fling return to Monroe’s Live on Thursday, 8 August, having just returned from tours of Europe and Asia.
Fling is a blend of traditions and styles, a ‘world’ music that has echoes of bluegrass, Irish trad and rock and roll. Their influences range from Planxty and Lúnasa, all the way to Rory Gallagher and Led Zeppelin.
The five-piece band combines tin-whistle, double-bass, various string instruments (banjo, mandolin and guitar) and drums/percussion and vocals, which include captivating three-part harmonies.
Their 2011 debut album, the eponymous ‘Fling’, which featured guest musicians such as Steve Wickham from the Waterboys, was produced by Derek Murray of The Stunning and mixed by Trevor Hutchinson from Lúnasa.
Let Fling take you on a musical journey from Galway, through Russia and South America, on Thursday, 8 August. Admission is €5 and doors open at 10pm.
