Tourism body Fáilte Ireland is to focus strongly on meeting the needs of small tourism businesses in the West of Ireland as part of its future strategy.
At a review and strategy meeting in Galway on Thursday, Fáilte Ireland Chairwoman Gillian Bowler said that while there had been healthy tourism growth in Dublin and in other regions, businesses along the west coast were not sharing in fully in that growth. “Addressing this issue remains a major focus for Fáilte Ireland,” Ms Bowler said.
At the meeting, the future of the B&B; sector, which has been experiencing difficulties in recent years, was examined. The sector has seen a nationwide decline of 25 per cent since 1998.
“B&Bs; must look at the service and experience they provide and see how they can adapt to changes, and Fáilte Ireland will work with them to do this,” she said.
