FAI welcomes UEFA Nations League plans
The Football Association of Ireland has welcomed UEFA’s Nations League plans which were approved by the Confederation’s executive committee last weekend. The competition is due to start in September 2018, replacing a number of friendly dates.
Member associations will compete in a league format and will be divided into four divisions based on their recorded coefficient in November 2017. Besides promotion and relegation places. Teams will also be playing for an alternative means of qualifying for the European Championships in 2020 – a tournament that the FAI will be part hosting.
