Following on from their critically acclaimed production of Martin McDonagh's 'The Cripple of Inishmaan' last February and Frank McGuinness' 'The Factory Girls', Zelig Theatre brings its latest production to the Town Hall Studio this July. Geraldine Aron's 'The Donahue Sisters and A Galway Girl' tells the story of Galway girl Massie. Massie is a working class mother struggling to keep her marriage, family and life from disintegration. Dermot, her husband, is an abusive alcoholic. She loves him but hates that she stays with him despite his unjustified behaviour. Annie, Rosie and Dunya are The Donahue Sisters, returning home on the news of their critically ill father. It's been years since the sisters sat in the same room together and there is a lot of reminiscing to do. Life, however, isn't what each of the girls had hoped for as stories of unruly children, sham marriages and flatulence problems are revealed. Their frustration is epitomised in a re-enactment of a childhood event that has dark, bloody consequences. The show plays for seven performances over five nights from Wednesday 25 to Sunday 29 July, nightly at 8.30pm with 3pm matinees on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 in Town Hall Studio, Galway. Tickets, which are ?12/?10/matinees ?8, are available from the Town Hall Box Office on 091-569777. |
