Born in Co. Roscommon, Alan grew up in a house steeped in traditional music and dance. At a young age, Alan had forged his own inimitable style, influenced mainly by his father Frank and local musicians such as Paddy Ryan, John Carlos, Patsy Hanly and Frank Jordan.

Alan moved to Galway in 1993, where he quickly became part of the thriving traditional music scene, forging an excellent reputation for himself.

Following on the success of his first CD 'Out of the Blue', Alan released his second solo album Mosaic in July 2000. Produced by guitarist Arty McGlynn, Mosaic features many new compositions from both Alan and Arty, as well as traditional music from Scotland, Finland and, of course, Ireland.

As well as his solo career, Alan also tours with Eddi Reader; he will play in Eddi Reader's Band for the headline act of the Galway Sessions 2008 on Saturday 21 June in the Salthill Hotel. The Alan Kelly Band includes Tola Custy on Fiddle, Alan's brother John on Flute and Gerry Paul on Guitar.

Special guest on the night is Kris Drever from the Orkney Islands. His music brought him from Metallica in his teens to sessions at Edinburgh's Sandy Bell's pub where he honed his guitar style, - a highly individual blend of rhythm and harmony, folk, jazz, rock and country inflections - that now finds him in near-constant demand as a session player.
