'Herm' and Eileen Keane will play in Amnesty International's Freedom Café tomorrow, Thursday 19 June, from 5pm. Kevin Connolly's artist name 'Herm' comes from the Channel Island on which he was found as a child, singing in some bushes. Inspired by Tom Waits, The Beatles, Pavement, Spiritualize, Herm also plays with a full band, 'The Hermanos', which consist of drums, bass, guitars, keys and occasional guest vocalists. The band have played with The Revs, Mundy, NPB and Dave Couse as well as headline shows in Crawdaddy and Whelan's. These shows were raucous and energetic and drew comparisons with Beck, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds and Beastie Boys. Last year was spent preparing for the release of Herms debut album, 'Monsters'. Eileen's material is deeply influenced by her experiences growing up in North Connemara. She uses her vocal ability to explore this emotional landscape, with themes of ancestry, love, loss and redemption permeating her beautifully crafted songs. She brings a heart felt freshness to both her own and others' music and she is a fine interpreter of traditional and contemporary songs. Admission is free. Anyone interested in playing in Amnesty International's Freedom Café should contact Anna Sorensdotter, Amnesty International, 2-3 Middle Street on 091-533637 or check out www.amnesty.ie. |
