Phatbob, a touring group of three female and two male poets, follow on their successful tour of Australia with a poetry tour of Ireland that will take in North Beach Poetry Nights at BK's Winebar.

The touring poets emerged from the various open mike nights held over the past few years in Belfast and the Sunday session performance spaces in Derry.

Too often we get told that poetry is something that people cannot get into, that it can't be accessible or easily understood. The hope for this meeting is to make poetry powerful yet enjoyable to everyone.

The North Beach Poetry nights slam follows the usual format. Anyone interested in performing should bring along two three-minute (max) pieces for round one and two of the slam. Newcomers are always welcome and the prize is the honour and a bottle of red wine donated by BK's Winebar.

North Beach Poetry Nights will begin for 2007 on Thursday 18 January at 9pm. Admission is €4 for the evening.
