A week after Galway's inaugural African Day celebrations comes Galway's first ever African Film Festival on the June Bank Holiday weekend, brought to the city by Galway One World Centre, Galway Film Society and the Huston School of Film and Digital Media.

Running over two days - Sunday 1 and Monday 2 June - at the Town Hall Theatre, the festival promises to be a true family event, which will feature films for young and old, ranging from animation to documentary in style and including themes such as religion, culture, war and politics.

After the final film on the Sunday evening, there will be African music from local South African accapella singers 'Ladies of the South' and some African cuisine in the Town Hall Theatre Bar, while Club 0a2 resident DJ Will Softly winds the festival down in exuberant fashion with a DJ set in the Town Hall bar on the Monday evening.

The festival is sponsored by Irish Aid, an organisation that provides development assistance in the fight against poverty and exclusion in some of the world's least developed countries, particularly in Africa. Due to the funding received from Irish Aid, there will be no charge for any of these events, however tickets must be obtained from the Town Hall Box Office.
