'Emmet Scanlan & What the Good Thought' are an independent music act whose music veers away from the usual yet is embraced by the majority of those who hear it.

With a head full of song ideas upon returning from a bit globe trekking, Emmet formed the group in the summer of 2004, deciding to set up camp in Galway.

Galway was the most natural choice for him as he had spent the four years previous studying science in the University. Of course, music was the next obvious step!

Emmet toured in America with Galway's own Saw Doctors in the summer of 2007 and in February of 2008 they were the only Irish act invited to perform at the 20th International Folk Alliance Music Conference in Memphis, Tennessee.

The songs themselves have a wide appeal, with elements of jazz, blues, folk and rock and more intricate bits and pieces than you can shake a stick at. These are songs Emmet has been writing over the last number of years based on experiences from home and while on his travels through Australia, America and much of Europe.

'What the Good Thought' are: Emmet Scanlan (Ireland), Nicola Geddes (Cello - Scotland), Alan Preims (Percussion - Italy) and Peter Akerstrom (Guitar & Bass - Swedan).

Having been tipped by HotPress magazine as 'ones to watch', they have spent most of last year in The Hatch studio in England recording tracks for the eagerly awaited debut album, which will be released in February 09. The lead single from the album gets its airing on 24 October.

'Emmet Scanlan & What the Good Thought' will play Cuba* on Saturday 18 October at 8.30pm. Admission is €10.
