Many's the wide-eyed clubber worldwide who would claim that Belgium's premium export after beer and chocolate (some would say even more important) is the wide-eyed, fun loving Mo Becha and David 'Benoilie' Fourqaert, aka The Glimmers. DJing since the mid 1980s in their home town of Ghent and armed with their mantra of just playing good music of all genres that gets clubbers smiling and dancing, the lovable DJ duo from Ghent have since gone on to wow dance floors the world over the last ten years with their infectiously funky sets combining everything from disco, new-wave, electro, rock & roll, funk and so much more.

They have re-edited and remixed the likes of Bloc Party, Roxy Music, New Order, Snow Patrol and Shirley Bassey and, since 2000, their compilation CDs, such as the 'Eskimo' collection, the seminal 'Serie Noire' and Young Galway Artists on display.

The second Young Galway Artists exhibition featuring the work of three emerging Galway artists, Maeve Curtis, Angela O'Brien and John Brady, will run in the Norman Villa Gallery from Thursday 10 April to Saturday 26 April. The show opens at 6pm.

Maeve Curtis's much-admired ghost-like images are the result of the removal rather than the addition of pigment. Her work is based on the fiction that every time someone has a photograph taken a spectral layer is detached from the body and transferred to the photograph. Curtis explores this fiction through the consideration of the other in family snap shots, the strangers caught in the background unbeknownst to themselves.

Angela O Brien's mixed media works combine photography with the slower painterly abstraction of manual mark making. The end result is an exploration and mixing of the boundaries between the 'unreal' abstract and the so-called realism of photography.

John Brady paints about the things that contains us: houses that shelter us, windows that frame our views, and boats that transport us. His images are based on memory and invite us to make connections engaging with the viewer, setting up a playful dialogue. These immediate, often heavily layered works have instant appeal, but reward closer scrutiny giving slowly of themselves, revealing their inner complexities in a relaxed, enjoyable and direct way.

Culture Club' series, 'DJ Kicks' and 'Fabric Live' mixes, have all garnered acclaim from DJs and music lovers alike.

Moving on from compiling other artists' music, The Glimmers are unleashing their own first artist album, 'Gee Gee Fazzi', on the world in 2008. In a novel twist and eschewing the conventional music industry standards, the album won't be sold in shops but will only be given away free to clubbers worldwide who come to see them play.

The Glimmers bring their box of party tricks to Cuba Live on Saturday 19 April as part of their 'Gee Gee Fazzi' tour. Setlist's Padraic O'Connor caught up with David for a quick chat on all things that glimmer.

How are you guys doing? Are you still based in Ghent these days?

We are fine, and we're still in Ghent. We like it here. No plans to move out. It is always good to come back here after the city trips.

Looking forward to coming back to the wild west of Ireland and meeting those SiSi deviants?

Very much! Galway has always treated us nice and with a lot of enthusiasm. We're very much looking forward to coming over and giving the audience a piece of plastic with some of our recordings on it. Hope they like it as much as they like our DJing.
