The Russell Gallery in New Quay in Clare will host an exhibition of paintings by four West of Ireland-based artists this month.

'Styles' will open on Saturday 7 June at 7pm by Gearóid O'Tuathaigh, historian and writer and will showcase the work of four artists based in the West of Ireland that have shared a piece of their artistic life around the figure of Laura Vecchi, artist, mentor and art collector.

'Styles' is a collection of new work by Catriona O'Connor, Laura Vecchi, Catherine Corcoran and Cormac O'Neill that explores two artistic trends and also put at confront two generations.

'Styles' is a fascinating journey through some of today's artistic trends. The result can be bewitching as the final lyrical images, controlled by technical experience, grow into a definite shape. In so doing, these paintings beautifully reach their goal allowing the spectator a sudden, mysterious and emotional empathy. The Russell Gallery is open every day from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 6pm and on Sunday from 12pm to 6pm.

each of the 4 walls in the main part of the gallery is covered with the works of each of the 4 different artists; the result is quite striking, the viewer comes to have a perception of style as being unique to the each of the 4 individuals and creating a strong contrast in material used, subject matter, technique and colour scheme, yet the 4 live in the same environment (west of Ireland), use similar paints on similar surfaces (wood, canvass, paper) Obviously the 4 have personality enough to determine a distictive style of their own. Strangely only very few journalists and gallerists have taken note of this group. Irish Art Review failed to notice, or was not informed in time
