Tonight's Laughter Lounge at the Róisín Dubh sees Steve Hughes, Karl Spain, Jeff Innocent and Gearóid Farrelly taking to the stage at 9pm. After ten years rehearsing, recording and touring as a drummer, Steve Hughes decided to walk around to the front of the kit, and engage the audience. Once he tried it without the band a comic was born. Steve has appeared all over Australia, won the Green Faces Comedy Competition 1997, and appeared on Channel 9's footy show. He was voted Australian comedian of the year in 1998 and hosted MTV in Australia. He has been to Ireland a few times (including Kilkenny), and even supported Mr Methane on tour. Karl Spain is one of Ireland's best young comedians. In a short career, he has already achieved a lot. He burst on the scene in 2000 by winning a newcomer competition on RTÉ and has since maintained a high standard. In 2003 he was thrilled to be chosen as one of the Irish acts at the Montreal 'Just for Laughs' festival. Karl had his own six-part series on RTÉ in which he went seeking love on the net, through dating agencies. Jeff Innocent will also appear and there will be an open spot from Gearoid Farrelly. Tickets, €12.50, are available from The Róisín Dubh on Dominick Street. |
