Fans of hazy folky rock should put the date Saturday 17 April in their calendars, as much-hyped UK band Stornaway come to the Róisín Dubh for their Galway debut. Their joyous single 'Zorbing' – which Drowned In Sound hailed as 'a pop song so devoid of cynicism and so bathed in sun-dappled melody it is impossible not to love' – and other soon to be classics such as 'Unfaithful' and 'Fuel Up' have quickly garnered the band a large fanbase as well as wowing critics. Lauded as 'a breath of fresh air' by NME and as having 'magical, majestic' songs by The Sunday Times, the band, who put on a stellar performance last year on Jools Holland, flanked but certainly not intimidated by Jay-Z and Sting, are ones to watch in 2010 and beyond. Tickets (€10/€8 members) are available now from Roisin Dubh and Zhivago Shop Street |
