Those of you out there who are swayed by all things soulful and funky should be glad to know that the Bierhaus crew on Henry Street has put together quite the treat over the upcoming May Bank Holiday weekend. On Saturday night 3 May the bar will resound to the sound of two of Ireland's finest funk DJs, Jeremy Murphy and Stroller, while there's a debut appearance in Galway on Sunday 4 May for Jazzman Gerald. As part of the hugely successful Community Skratch Games, Jeremy Murphy and Stroller played back to back on the Saturday night of the Games in a 'Funk Battle' - trying to outdo each other with their powerful arsenal of dirty funk bombs – and they're renewing their friendly rivalry and repeating their 'feast of funk and breaks' show again on the Bank Holiday Saturday night. Jazzman Gerald is head honcho and the brains and heart and soul behind one of the world's premier record labels, Jazzman Records. Originally a dealer in rare records, he started his by now world renowned labels Jazzman Records, Funk 45 and Stark Reality in the late 90s, releasing rare and hard-to-find gems straddling genres such as Latin, funk, ska, Northern soul, afro, reggae, jazz and much more. So, bring a Cuban/Hawaiian shirt, your dancing shoes and a smile, knock back one of those lovely foreign beers and get down to the rumpshakin' sounds in the Bierhaus. |
