Sister Act the musical comedy is coming to the Black Box Theatre from Thursday 15 February to Saturday 17 February, in a stage adaptation from Galway's Smokey Glass Productions. Sister Act tells the story of cabaret singer and good time gal Dolores Van Cartier, who is on the run from her mafia boyfriend after witnessing a violent crime. Taking refuge in a convent about to be closed down, she finds the role of choir director thrust upon her and she turns the fortune and numbers of the nuns around. Smokey Glass previous production in Galway was The Birdcage, directed by Méadbh Sullivan and Jo McNamara at the Town Hall last year. Máiread Ní Loideáin, who has several years acting experience with Galway Youth Theatre and An Taibhdhearc, co-directs with Méadbh Sullivan. The cast consists of Galway's newest emerging dramatic singers. Musical direction is by Eamon Brett of Trading Faces stage school. The show's music includes musical classics, while also including some surprise extra new numbers. It starts at 8pm. |
