After their highly successful inaugural tour in February, dynamic baroque foursome Armoniosa is back on the road this autumn with a programme entitled ‘"For Several Friends’. This irresistible early baroque repertoire will be heard as it was intended: played in intimate surroundings by a group of friends motivated by a passion for the music, on gut-strung instruments appropriate to the period. The programme sounds the depths of intimate music-making in England, from Locke to Handel. Armoniosa are Anita Vedres and Hannah Tibell, Malachy Robinson and Richard Sweeney.Together, these four gut-strung instrumentalistss produce a perfectly blended sound: two baroque violins playing together in harmony make just about the most beautiful sound imaginable! And the violone has much in common with the lute, so the empathy between them makes for a uniquely balanced and nuanced continuo - the ‘“rhythm section’” in baroque music.
This tour will also include suites and sonatas by Matthew Locke, Henry Purcell, Nicola Matteis, Francesco Geminiani and GF Handel.
Tickets are priced at €18/ €14 and €5 and are available from Music for Galway on 091-705962 or at Opus II, St Augustine Street, Galway. |
