Gig: An Taobh Tuathail - Róisín Dubh, Friday 8 August The Galway leg of the nationwide promotional tour for 'An Taobh Tuathail 2', Cian O'Caoimhan's warm fuzzy indietronica compilation out soon on Psychonavigation Records. Acts for the evening are the excellent Somadrone, Kilkenny's Rarely Seen Above Ground and Alphamono and proceedings will be aired live on Anocht FM/RTE Radio na Gaeltachta from 11pm til 1am. Music: 'Balearic Beach Session' mixed by Jon Sa Trinxa, (Azuli) Seeing as we're completely devoid of any semblance of a summer we have to glean our imaginary sunshine from wherever possible, and this compilation of balearic beats, downtempo delights and house grooves is no bad place to start. Superb track selection without even a tiny crumb of stinky cheese in sight. Just close your eyes and sip that imaginary mojito! Film: The Dark Knight Unlike so many other god-awful superhero films of late Christopher Nolan's take on Batman hits all the right spots. It is a tad on the long side but the action scenes are exhilarating, Christian Bale triumphs as the troubled Batman and superlatives don't do justice to the late Heath Ledger's Joker. See it in all its cinematic glory on the big screen, don't wait for the DVD! Club: Club Oa2 - Arus na Gael, Friday 8 August Selectors extraordinaire this Friday at Galway's weekly world music mash-up are resident Ben O'Faoilan and Lex 'down from the big smoke for the night' Woo, the man behind the capital city's excellent Babilonia bashes. Afro, Latin and reggae vibes to make you smile and dance… and then smile and dance some more! |
