Club: Pantha Du Prince @ Lowerstate - De Burgo's, Friday 1 August Instead of just booking guest DJs, the Lowerstate boys have a policy of booking only live electronic acts, and this month's gig should be a cracker, as Berlin bad boy Pantha Du Prince comes to town. Top-notch lush melodic techno to sway any dancefloor, warm up bleeps and bloops from Lowerstate resident Rory D. Recommended! Comedy: Ron Vaudry - Comedy Club @ Cuba *Live, Sunday 3 August The quick-witted cynical Canadian returns to Galway for a comic trip from raucous controversy to lip-smacking satire while taking in some thought provoking political and social observations along the way. Rookies Anthony Kyne and Johnny Conway are support, with Gerry Mallon MC for the evening. Tickets in advance at Bar 903, The Cellar Bar and at the door, which opens at 8.30pm Gig: Walter Mitty & The Realists - Róisín Dubh, Friday 1 August On listening to the bouncing funk of the Irish four-piece's 'Red is the number, you can see why Stuart Clarke of Hot Press blessed them with the tag 'Talking Heads meets The Rapture'. Currently recording their debut album with ex-Cranberries drummer Fergal Lawler, their energetic live shows are getting positive murmurings nationwide. Gig is free so no excuses people!! Music: Lykke Lie – 'Youth Novels' (LL records) Refreshingly honest lyrics of love, life, obsession and heartbreak from the Swedish songstress, a beautiful collection which she refers to not as songs but as 'the book of my life'. Her ethereal childlike vocals sit over crisp atmospheric electronic beats and cast an intoxicating musical spell. Music to fall in love to, or music to get your heart broken to. |
