Music: Last Of The Shadowpuppets, 'The Age Of Understatement' Alex Turner(Arctic Monkeys) and Miles Kane(Rascals) side project, backed by a 22-piece orchestra, is finally in the shops now and it's an altogether more adult affair than the 'Mardy Bum' Monkeys. Yes it's derivative in a spaghetti western/Bond theme/Scott Matthews way but if only all derivative albums sounded this good!
Gig: Rootical Soundsystem Galway's original reggae crew bring their latest show to the Black Box as legendary producer and Kiss FM presenter Mannasseh is welcomed to the West for a soundclash with Earl 16 and roots vocalist Danny Red. Rootical run things proper, with the baddest soundsystem in town, high production values and a clued-up cool crowd.
Club: Fairmont (Live) Lot of stiff competition for clubbers this weekend but this one shades it. Canadian producer Fairmont's 'Coloured In Memory' album was one of last year's best electronic albums and he'll be doing his thang live in the Cellar on the Bank Holiday Sunday. Support from 091's Lynam and Lowerstate's Rory D.
Film: The Eye Hollywood remake of 2002 Hong Kong horror flick starring Jessica Alba as a blind concert violinist who regains her sight after a cornea transplant, only to find that, not only can she see again, she also has horrific premonitions and visions of death (thanks to the donor of aforementioned cornea). Not the greatest or goriest horror you'll ever see, but worthwhile all the same. |
