Film: 20th Galway Film Fleadh - Tues 8th July to Sunday 13th July

Where do we start?... Irish premiere feature films and those wonderful shorts (documentaries and animation) in the Town Hall, movie stars and directors everywhere you look, World Cinema daily in the Omniplex, free concert movies in Eyre Square and a Galway Film Fair and other industry discussions… the 20th Film Fleadh is a veritable treasure chest of treats for lovers of film. Go get some!

Comedy: Jeff Green - Comedy Club @ Cuba Live, Sunday 6 July

A staple on the UK, Irish and world comedy circuit for years now, Green's razor sharp observational humour and impish charm are easy on the eye and ear. An accomplished writer and regular on TV, Green is assisted in the chuckle stakes at Galway's original den of laughter by Paul Tylak and Paddy O'Neill.

Music: Sigur Ros – 'Med Sud i Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust' - (EMI)

Another stunning release but also a departure from the norm for the Icelandic gods of cool as they record an album outside of their homeland for the first time. There's a change afoot in their music too; those trademark epic strings and vocals are still there but there's a refreshing playful spark and rough simplicity to some songs with acoustic guitars, handclaps and percussion to the fore. It's as if they have the secret formula for translating beauty into music.

Gig: Life Festival - Lough Cutra Castle, Gort, 4, 5 and 6 July

The first of the summer's festivals kicks off in the beautiful surrounds of Lough Cutra Castle. Something for everyone, from the tie-dyed psychedelic trance of Hallucinogen, the roots reggae stylings of Max Romeo and Finley Quaye, the cut and paste beats of the legendary Coldcut, Skream's dubstep anthems, the rolling funk of Brazilian drum & bass DJ Marky, Phil Kieran's Alloy Mental and nuff other moods and grooves to choose from.
