Film - I'm Not There Slightly confusing but ultimately rewarding film based on the life and times of troubadour and modern day Walt Whitman, Bob Dylan. Worth going alone for Cate Blanchette's remarkable performance of Jude, one of the six characters symbolising different facets of Dylan. Album - Lightspeed Champion – 'Falling Off The Lavender Bridge' - (Domino Records) Sadly, certain people seem more interested in how a black man could make a supposedly 'white' album rather than concentrating on his actual music, but Dev Hynes' acoustic debut (he was previously in punk band Test Icicles) is an assured hybrid of breezy guitar pop and country rock. Comedy - Stewart Lee - Laughter Lounge, Róisín Dubh - Wednesday 27 February Never mind the 41st best stand up ever shtick, Lee was one of the unsung highlights of last year's Arts festival and a must-see for serious comedy fans (or is that an oxymoron!). Philosophical, intelligent humour quite like nothing else on this planet…probably. An absolute joy! Gig - Dave Allen Band Galway Jazz Club @ Cellar Bar Tuesday 4 March Second night of the new season of Galway Jazz Club gigs. The underground intimate confines of the Cellar (downstairs) will be swinging to the Pat Metheny-esque guitar pickings of New Yorker Dave Allen and his band. To coin an overused but appropriate 'jazz' phrase…Nice! |
