Gig: Vince Mack Mahon and Melodica Deathship - Bierhaus, Thursday 21 August

Purveyors of proper music the Bierhaus crew and the Community Skratch Games feens put on a night of mad beats and musical mayhem. Cuttin' and scratchin' from some of Europe's finest exponents of real hip-hop and turntable manipulation; Galway's gruesome foursome Vince Mack Mahon, Berlin beatmasters Melodica Deathship and the Laminator. Get in early!

Music: Port O Brien – All We Could Do Was Sing, (City Slang)

Swimming in the same musical waters as the excellent Fleet Foxes, Californian band Port O'Brien release their first full album and it's brimming with joyous folk harmonies and melodic acoustic rock. From the foot tapping instantly hummable I Woke Up Today to the mellower contemplative Stuck On A Boat, all they do is sing really really well! Highly recommended!

Club: Freeform Five DJ Set - Bar 903, Saturday 23 August

The UK act led by multi-instrumentalist Anu Pillai shot to fame years back with the Perspex Sex EP and their thrilling Brasilian-acid-funk-house remix of Isolee's minimal techno banger Beau Mon Plage. They hit Galway this weekend to rock 903 with their varied wigged out DJ set, ably assisted by 903's Saturday resident Shane Buggin Out Dooley.

Comedy: Laughter Lounge - Roisin Dubh, Wednesday 20 August

Triple bill of midweek laughs for your entertainment down west with the deadpan delivery of up and coming Irish comic John Lynn jousting for jokes with the observational humour of Damian I Dare Ya Clark and the manic motormouth that is New Zealander Al Pitcher. All this and an open mike slot for Matthew Collins… more bang for your buck!
