Film: Be Kind Rewind

Michel Gondry

Michel ('Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' and 'The Science of Sleep') Gondry's least complicated movie so far in which Jack Black and Mos Def star as the bungling duo who have to do their own homemade remakes of classic movies after a magnetised Black erases the complete stock of videos in the small local store where they work and hang out. Simple, happy, entertaining fare.

Gig: Edan and Rogha (Journey to the Centre of the Beats)

Róisín Dubh, Thursday 13 March 9pm

True treat for beat aficionados in the West of Ireland. No namby pamby blingtastic MTV music here… just Edan (and label mate Dagha) doing live what he does best… and that's block rocking, lyrically blazin', psychedelic hiphop! A show not to be missed from one of the most original and talented artists in music today! Nuff said!

Comedy: Phil Nichol's 'Hiro Worship'

Comedy Club, Cuba, Sunday 16 March

Belly laughs will abound as the king of high energy theatrical comedy, joined on stage by a live band, regales the crowd with his award-winning story of a Japanese tourist he put up for one night but who stayed for six months. Delivered with customary verve by the ever-energetic Canadian, this is not for the faint hearted. Hilarity guaranteed!

Music: Erykah Badu - 'New Amerykah (Part 1)'

(Motown/Universal)

Enlisting a veritable all-star production team (including Roy Ayers, Sara Collective, Questlove and Madlib among others), hip-hop's queen of cool has certainly not lost any of her sass or soul as she ruminates on the state of America today. Soulful hip-hop with a message and a conscience. Five years in the making and well worth the wait.
