COMEDY: Maeve Higgins - Sunday 13 July - Comedy Club Cuba Live
Star of ‘Naked Camera’ and regular contributor to the Ray D’Arcy Show on Today FM, the lady with the deadpan delivery and the very wry sense of humour is back. Blessed with an intelligence a lot of her over-hyped male peers could do with and a wonderfully wonky perspective on life, love and umm… shopping, Higgins is a gem of a live performer. Support on the night from Willa White, while the inimitable Gerry Mallon is your host with the most for the evening.

FILM: Film Fleadh - Tuesday 8 - Sunday 13 July
Too many to mention to just pick one but the free screening in Eyre Square of Kila's ‘Once Upon A Time’, the criminally funny biopic of metal band Anvil, Alex Gibney's excellent ‘Taxi To The Dark Side’, Jean Claude Van Damme's ‘JCVD’ and features such as ‘Surveillance’ and ‘Anton’ are among the many worthwhile films, shorts and documentaries worth checking out this week.

MUSIC: Fleet Foxes – ‘Fleet Foxes’ – (Bella Union/Sub Pop)
Hype… it's everywhere in the music industry. Every week the ‘greatest album of the year’ is released. Then something quietly comes along and blows you away, not on that ‘amazing first listen’ type thing, but instead it just gets better and better with each and every play. A bewildering mishmash of folk, gospel, country-rock in a Beach Boys/CSNY style, Fleet Foxes heavenly harmonies and musical mastery are the sweetest music to these ears in quite a while!

GIG: Richard Hawley - Monday 14 July - Radisson Hotel
First night of Galway Arts Festival and already we have one of the musical highlights! Hawley's last two albums ‘Coles Corner’ and ‘Lady's Bridge’ were outstanding and his show in Róisín Dubh in February was nothing short of stunning. His wonderful song writing, the band's shockingly tight rockabilly grooves and his witty banter with the crowd between songs make for a truly treasurable night out. Highly recommended!
