A lot of people think that hip-hop music is just about the beats, but it's more than that isn't it? Yeah, exactly. Hip-hop, by its very definition, is all sorts of music. It's a bastard culture… a melting pot of everything. Hip-hop is in a position now where jazz was years ago in that it's established itself as a definite entity but it doesn't have a definite direction as a scene or as a movement. The new experimental stuff is like the progressive jazz of the 1970s. The new wave of scratch music is more about the music that comes out of the battle than the actual methods/scratching… the music is more important! Who or what originally turned you on to scratch music and DJing? Seeing DJ Noize at the DMCs in 1996 started it all for me. I won a video of the competition on Mickey Mac's dance show on 2FM, watched it and that was that! Finally, why should people who mightn't know much about scratch music come along and check out the 'Games'? Well basically, they should come along because it's a concentration of the best scratch talent in the whole country and it'll be on in the Bierhaus for two whole days for FREE! So come down check it out … and be amazed! For information on the line-up and all the weekends festivities, check the games myspace at www.myspace.com/communityskratchgames. |
