The RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet, who are this year celebrating 21 years, will play in the Aula Maxima in Galway on Wednesday 28 November at 8pm.

The quartet will perform Schubert's great C major quintet with internationally acclaimed cellist Ralph Kirshbaum, and give the world premieres of three short new pieces by Irish composers.

To mark the quartet's anniversary, RTÉ commissioned short pieces from three leading Irish composers: Seóirse Bodley, Deirdre Gribbin and Ronan Guilfoyle.

Schubert's epic C major quintet, completed only weeks before his death, is hailed by many as a masterpiece of chamber music. Rich with dynamics and emotions and renowned for its drama and dense textures, the quintet is one of Schubert's most successful instrumental compositions.
