![]() Two of Ireland's best known musical ensembles, Resurgam and Camerata Kilkenny unite for the first time for a special performance of Handel's seasonal favourite: Messiah in St Nicholas's Church on Tomorrow Thursday 13 December at 7.30pm. This will also be a unique moment in the history of St Nicholas's Collegiate church since it will be the first occasion that the Messiah will be accompanied by an orchestra comprised of instruments modelled on those of Handel's era. This year marks a new departure: under the direction of Mark Duley, Resurgam is teaming up with world-renowned period ensemble Camerata Kilkenny, led by Swiss violinist Maya Homburger. The four soloists for this year's three-city tour are internationally acclaimed: soprano Lynda Lee (Ireland), countertenor Owen Willetts (UK), tenor Daniel Auchincloss (Canada) and bass Raitis Grigalis (Switzerland). Headford based musical director; Mark Duley is one of Ireland's best-known conductors and organists. He has appeared with most of the major Irish ensembles including RTé National Symphony Orchestra, RTé Concert Orchestra, the National Chamber Choir, the Irish Baroque Orchestra, Opera Theatre Company and his own recently-formed choir Resurgam. Mark is one of the country's best known choral advisers, leading workshops both here and abroad, and has acted as adjudicator at major Irish competitions and festivals. He is organist of the Collegiate Church of St Nicholas, Galway. Tickets, from €5 to €25 are available from Charlie Byrne's Bookshop, Cornstore Mall, Middle Street, Galway. |
