The accomplished poet and editor, John Wakeman will read in the Galway City Museum on Friday, 18 February at 1pm. John Wakeman worked in public libraries in London and New York, then worked as a freelance journalist, before editing major reference books on contemporary world literature and on world film directors for an American publisher. In 1984, he co-founded the UK poetry magazine The Rialto, which he co-edited for 12 years before he and his wife Hilary moved to Ireland. He has also published short stories, essays and reviews, and has given talks on RTE and the BBC. He was a Consultant Contributor to The Encyclopaedia of Ireland. He founded The Shop, a magazine of poetry, in 1999. Admission to the reading, which is sponsored by The Munster Literature Centre, is free but donations will be gratefully received for the Western Writers' Centre.
