Galway Art Centre's new season of monthly poetry slams kicks off on Tuesday 30 September upstairs in the King's Head, Ruby Room, at 7pm.

Anyone who wants to perform a poem is welcome to come along and give it a try.

There are some important changes to this year's poetry slams. From now on each slam will stand alone, with a prize on the night. Also automatic qualification for the 'grand slam' in the Cúirt festival in April 2009 will cease, meaning the monthly slams will be open to all - including previous winners.

Elaine Feeney, the 2008 Grand Slam winner, will be the guest reader for the first slam.
