MUSIC: David Kitt – 'The Nightsaver' - (Gold Spillin' Records)There's a beautiful simplicity to Kittser's new album that makes you happy he went along the DIY route. Not unlike his long time friend Jape, it's a blissful mix of his recognisable vocals, fuzzy guitars and synths and bass that wouldn't be out of place in a late night bleary eyed club set. Welcome back Kittser! GIG: Akil (Jurassic 5) Roisin Dubh Thursday 26 MarchWith all the machismo/bling bullshit so called hip-hop around these days, the sad demise of Jurassic 5 a couple of years ago was a bitter pill to swallow for many. But Akil from the J5 crew still flies the flag for conscious hip-hop and he returns to Galway after a storming show in De Burgos last year. Well worth a look. COMEDY: Kevin McAleer Town Hall Thursday 26 MarchThat trademark Tyrone drawl and deadpan delivery remain the same as when McAleer first came to national recognition on Shay Healy's risque late night ‘Nighthawks’ programme on RTÉ in the late 80s. Thankfully his jokes are still top quality. With not an expletive ridden rant in sight, this is subtle comedy to tickle you into submission. CLUB: Phil Hartnoll GPO Thursday 26 MarchResponsible (along with his brother Paul) for some seminal moments in dance music, such as tracks like 'Belfast' and 'Chime' , Orbital's Phil Hartnoll makes his Galway debut. Expect a few Galway oldies to come out of retirement for this one. Support on the night from much hyped Whippix and DJ Ferg in Drum. |
