Catastrophe returns with a more site-specific absurdity, 'Penguins', by Josh Tobiessen, follows the activities of three waiters over the course of an evening as they work the dinner party from hell. The guests are pompous and rude, the staff are mercenary and crude but at least the flower arrangements are lovely. The waiters all have their own not so hidden agendas, which threaten to put cracks in the evening's elegant façade. As the night progresses mischief turns to mayhem and the party slowly spins out of control. The play is set in the atmospheric surroundings of Tara restaurant. So come early and grab a drink and if you really want to make a night out of it, why not avail of the special meal and theatre ticket, dinner will be served after the show. Catastrophe was formed in June 2001 and has staged 15 successful shows in Galway and on tour. A combination of sharp, witty writing and an energetic physicality gives Catastrophe its own unique style of dark comedy. The company's three founder members met while studying for a Masters Degree in Theatre and Drama Studies at NUI. As well as numerous pieces of new writing for the stage Catastrophe has focused on site-specific shows in recent years. These have included productions in yards, car parks, offices, pubs and churches. It will take place at 5pm in Tara…a taste of Ireland on 38 Dominick Street Lower. The piece will run from Monday 14 to Saturday 26 July. Theatre tickets are €15/€12 and theatre plus dinners tickets are €40. |
