Paul Guilfoyle will exhibit his works in an exhibition titled ‘Solas an Iarthai’ in Kenny’s Art Gallery from Friday 12 October.

Paul Guilfoyle has had six solo exhibitions at The Kenny Gallery since 1993. Many of his earliest visual memories relate to long summer holidays in the west of Ireland, and in many cases these images still haunt him.

The west, his first subject matter on pursuing an artistic career in the early 1990's, continues to provide him with inspiration. This accounts for a timeless quality in most of his work. He has explored the hills of Donegal, the mountains of Kerry, the woodlands and boglands of the midlands, but it is in the counties of Galway and Mayo that inspire him.

As the title of his latest exhibition ‘Solas an Iarthai’ (Light of the West) suggests, one of the particular aspects of Guilfoyle's painting is his treatment of tone and light. His characteristic attention to the accurate representation of the constantly changing light of the west of Ireland - a challenge to any artist - is masterfully realised with bold and intentional brushwork.

The exhibition will run until 1 November.
