The PREDA Akbay theatre group, led by the inspiring and tireless humanitarian worker Fr Shay Cullen, brings their powerful production, 'Once We Had Dream' to the college chapel in NUIG at 8pm on Saturday 24 May. ![]() Despite the serious topics dealt with in the performance, the play has a positive uplifting message and culminates with a celebration of Filipino culture, dance, and traditional indigenous music. The money raised from the staging of this production will go directly towards the children's charity. Over €12,000 was raised by Galway Community College and PREDA Galway during the recent Damien Dempsey fundraising concert. This money was spent providing emergency relief for children freed from adult prisons as well as resurfacing a boys' accommodation unit and building a basketball court for the children. Since the inception of PREDA Galway, combined with the efforts of Galway Community College, a little over €30,000 has been raised in 18 months for this worthy cause. PREDA Galway has recently received support from Irish internationals, Shane Long, Kevin Doyle and Stephen Hunt as well as Galway hurling legend Ollie Canning, Dublin based singer Damien Dempsey, the boxer Bernard Dunne, golfers Paul Mc Ginley and Padraig Harrington as well as Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn and Hollywood legend James Cromwell. They also enjoy the ongoing support of actor Martin Sheen. Further to the staging of the play, local music fans are in for a treat as popular local singer songwriter Noelie McDonnell, Pier Nineteen and newly formed group Apartment 44 are going to perform a benefit concert for PREDA in Campbell’s Tavern in Claughonover in Headford on Saturday 7 June. Tickets, €12.50/€6, are currently on sale from the main office in Galway Community College, the chaplaincy office in NUIG and at reception in the Western Hotel in Prospect Hill in Galway. Due to the sensitive nature of the topics dealt with in the play it is recommended that the audience be over 16.
