On the spot comedy

The Laughter Lounge at the Róisín Dubh plays host to a night of improv comedy with Ian Coppinger, Paul Tylak, Michelle Read and Karl Spain tonight, Wednesday 29 August.

Dublin Comedy Improv is the longest running professional improv group in Ireland. The group, established in 1992, has continued to parade their unique brand of improvised humour the world over. Faster than stand up comedy and more convincing than acting, the Dublin Comedy Improv have played with improvisers such as The Second City, Whose Line Is It Anyway? and cast members of The Simpsons and Cheers, as well as playing at The Edinburgh and Melbourne Festivals.

Ian Coppinger has performed on four continents, including yearly appearances at the Kilkenny Cat Laughs comedy festival, the Edinburgh festival, the Adelaide festival and the Melbourne international comedy festival. Ian is a founding member of the Dublin Comedy Improv and still performs with the group every Monday night at the International bar in Dublin.

Paul Tylak is best known for his acting stint as Ashti on RTÉ’s Fair City. Paul is a core member of Dublin Improv group and has performed with The Simpsons, Dharma and Greg and the Drew Carey show.

Michelle Read began her career as a writer/performer working as a stand-up comic on the London comedy circuit in 1988. Michelle is a founder member and core player with the Dublin Comedy Improv and has performed improv and stand-up at the Cat laughs International Comedy Festival in Kilkenny, the Edinburgh Festival and all around Ireland.
Limerick’s Karl Spain draws his inspiration from local experiences. He burst onto the comedy scene in 2000 by winning a newcomer competition on RTÉ and has since maintained a high standard.
