One of the greatest of all Scottish folk singers, Dick Gaughan returns by popular demand to the Crane Bar next week, having played two riveting sell out shows in April last at the same venue.

A proud Scot with Irish heritage, Dick Gaughan will open a week-long fare of Irish and Scots music at the Crane Bar with two performances on Monday 16 and Tuesday 17 June. He will be joined on stage by two local singers, Sean Tyrell and John Faulkner, who share his passion for songs that depict the social history of these islands.

Three of the most exciting young traditional musicians currently touring the world will feature as part of the Galway Sessions on Wednesday 18 June.

From Connemara, fiddlers Liz and Yvonne Kane and piano accordionist Mirella Murray, collectively known as 'The Girls of Letterfrack', along with special guests will be sure to charm and delight their audiences.

Thursday 19 June meanwhile will be the night for piping enthusiasts, while a regular summer school and festival performers Tommy Keane (on pipes) and his wife Jacqueline McCarthy (on concertina) will perform on Thursday 19 June. They will be joined by special guest from Scotland Arthur Jones of the Kinlochard Ceilidh Band on highland and lowland pipes.

The curiously titled band 'Seven Foot Willie' will entertain at the Crane Bar on Friday 20 June. The band comprises three brothers, the Donaldsons from Stirling, amongst them Harry, a Galway resident and popular performer on the local folk scene. The brothers will be joined by lots of guest musicians from places as diverse as Glasgow, Shantalla and China. The band name refers to the fact that William Wallace's (Braveheart) height as well as his status reached legendary proportions!

The Galway Sessions 2008 at The Crane Bar winds up on Saturday 21 June with The Fonnadóirí Singers Club at 6.30pm.

Special guests on the night will be Lillis O'Laoighaire who specialises in songs from his native Donegal as well as in Scots Gaidhlig and Jackie Uí Chionna who favours songs from the North of Ireland and the songs of Robbie Burns.
