Irish singer songwriter Gemma Hayes, who is currently preparing her fourth album, the follow up to 2008's 'The Hollow of Morning', comes to the Roisin Dubh on Saturday 16 January. One of eight children, Hayes was surrounded by music from an early age. She was influenced by the music emanating from her seven siblings' bedrooms and that played by her father, a keyboardist in a local band.

By the time she left for boarding school in County Limerick, Hayes was already proficient at piano and found that music countered the boredom of living in a small village. Although she enrolled at university in Dublin, Hayes soon left to concentrate on music, working part-time in a laundrette during the day and playing the city's circuit at night.

She was cast into the international spotlight with her Mercury Prize-nominated debut album, 'Night on My Side', released in 2002. Since then, her unique musical style - a blend of rock, folk and electronica - has continued to impress, twice earning her nods as Ireland's best female artist. Her work as of late has been featured in multiple films and television shows in America, among them 'ER', 'Grey's Anatomy' and 'Private Practice'.

Gemma is embarking upon an acoustic tour in support of her recently released EP, 'Oliver'. She'll also be previewing new tracks from her upcoming fourth studio album, which she began recording late last year in Los Angeles with long-time producer David Odlum.
