Druid have announced two more significant developments in the company's 2008 programme. The Druid production of The Walworth Farce (Edinburgh Fringe First Award winner), which has just returned from a stunningly successful run in New York, has been invited to join the repertoire of the Royal National Theatre in London, playing at the Cottesloe Theatre from September. In a further development, Druid has announced that the Atlantic Theatre Company in New York has come onboard as co-producers for 'The Cripple of Inishmaan' by Martin McDonagh, which opens in Galway on Tuesday 16 September before undertaking a nationwide Irish and UK tour. The Cripple of Inishmaan will then open in the Atlantic Theatre, New York, on Thursday 18 December. The Atlantic Theatre Company was the original host for 'The Beauty Queen of Leenane' before it transferred to Broadway, where it won a total of four Tony awards for Druid and its co-producing partners, the Royal Court Theatre, London. "Martin McDonagh is one of the most vibrant writers of his generation and the Atlantic is thrilled and proud to be welcoming him back to the theatre that launched his career in America. This is a dream team production that combines the amazing Druid Theatre and the genius of Garry Hynes," said Andy Hamingson, Executive Director of Atlantic Theatre Company, New York. Commenting on Druid's latest developments, Artistic Director, Garry Hynes said: "I am delighted that Druid are to partner two such significant and important theatres in the UK and the USA. Working together, we can achieve more than working on our own, which is good for the Irish theatre, for all our artists and finally for audiences everywhere." Tim Smith, General Manager of Druid said: "2008 is Druid's busiest year ever and to finish with productions running in New York and London is the jewel in the crown for Druid. It is terrific to be building a new relationship with the Royal National Theatre in London while renewing our successful partnership with the Atlantic Theatre Company." |
