Two brand new pieces of music are to be showcased at a unique event at Kenny's Gallery in The Liosban Retail Park this Saturday, 21 March. The new works to be performed are string quartets written especially for ConTempo. 'Pas de Quatre' by Rhona Clarke and 'Entropy' by Grainne Mulvey will headline the programme, which will also feature 'ConTempo Conversations' by Galway based composer Jane O'Leary and 'minard/nithsdale' by Jennifer Walshe, both of which were performed by the quartet at Carnegie Hall last year as part of the CMC New Music New Ireland showcase.

This weekend's concert in Kenny's Gallery is the final element of the New Notes project, a year-long collaboration between Galway's Ensemble in Residence Con Tempo and Dublin's Contemporary Music Centre, which has involved a series of workshops, open dialogue and concerts in Navan, Galway and Roscommon over the past year.

"We are thrilled to be bringing this fresh new Irish music to a Galway audience for the first time," said Mary Dooley, Chairperson of Galway Ensemble in Residence.

"It is particularly apt for us to be performing this new work in our first concert in the new Kenny's Gallery. We are delighted to be partnering with Tom and his team again on this very special event."

The Contemporary Music Centre is Ireland's national library and promotion agency for new music. It is supported by the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaion and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

The Galway Ensemble-in-Residence, ConTempo, serves at the heart of a music development programme for Galway City and County. The project aims to enrich, inspire and encourage those already involved in music and to increase access for those who have no previous engagement with music and is supported by the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaion, NUI Galway, Galway University Foundation, GMIT, Galway City Council, Galway County Council and Friends of ConTempo.
