The KanyuTree formerly known as the Cheerfuls are a three man local band that play a mixture of smart pop and funky sounds. This band of brothers Daniel, Shane and Oisin from Salthill are gaining a lot of ground musically. This was evident in their supporting role to the Blizzards this summer.

ImageAfter a long hard summer of writing, recording and touring they are releasing their first single this September in Galway.

The summer for the boys was hectic. “We've been in studio, writing some new material and preparing for the release of the single. We've also been playing a few gigs around the country, including a support tour with the Blizzards and a headline slot at the Féile Beo festival in Kerry. It was easy to get a good bit of work done over the summer 'cause the weather's been so lousy!” said Shane.

Musically the bands sound is inspired by The Beach Boys, The
Bee Gees and artists such as Stevie Wonder and Bill Withers.

“A lot of our songs would incorporate three-part harmonies, underlain with funk/pop arrangements and this is represented in our new single,” said Oisin.

“The new single is called 'Tanglewood'. It's about a guitar we borrowed off our next door neighbour, Sarah, a good few years ago but kind of forgot to give it back. She'll probably be looking for it now though when she reads this!” said Shane

Tanglewood is on sale from Friday 14 September in Zhivago, HMV, Redlight Records in Galway, HMV and Road Records in Dublin and HMV in Limerick and Cork. The single is priced at €2.99 and it will also be downloadable from iTunes.

The KanyuTree will be doing an in store performance in Zhivago, Shop Street at 4pm on Friday 14 to mark its release and the launch will take place on Saturday 15 September in the Róisín Dubh.

So what’s next for The kanyuTree? “Our plans for the near future are to gig as much as possible around the country and maybe to release another single. or an album? Who knows? For the moment we're just concentrating on Tanglewood” concluded Daniel.
